Verrucae

Verrucas are caused by a virus (human papilloma virus ) often transmitted by an infected individual at swimming pools or communal changing rooms . They come in all different shapes and sizes some are small and asymptomatic others are much larger and painful . 

There is not one definitive cure for verrucas and as they are a virus most will resolve of their own accord as the body’s immune system reacts to them .

However, some verrucas can grow very large and others can spread causing much discomfort. Treatments will involve the applications of chemicals and cryo (freezing) which are self limiting, the main aim being to trigger the bodies natural defence mechanisms to attack the verruca.
With 30 years’ experience our therapist offers a very complete treatment using a variety of massage modalities aimed at offering the most effective results in the time available. 

The fast pace of our modern lives is not conducive to good health and we are all very different and have to find a form of maintenance that suits each of us individually – you wouldn’t run your car for years without giving it a service or MOT!!!

To give you some idea of the different massage approaches on offer we have included some brief descriptions below.

Massage for back pain

Is often a great way to relieve severe and debilitating pain. Most often back pain originates in the soft tissues. 

Whether the pain is muscular or vertebral in origin massage is a safe, non-invasive and cost effective place to start. If there are no benefits felt from the massage then other approaches are still available.

However, if the treatment is effective then time, pain and a lot of money have been saved.

Thickened toenails

These can occur as a result of damage or trauma , fungal infected toenails are often thick, crumbly and difficult to cut . At the clinic thick toenails are thinned down painlessly making them more comfortable and
cosmetically pleasing.

Remedial massage

Is massage done by a trained massage therapist, to create the conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders. It is used to treat chronic muscular-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, or any injury where the skin is intact.

Remedial massage is also used for conditions created by lifestyle, for example, repetitive strain injury and back pain. 

Deep tissue massage

Removes blockages, damaged cells, adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery and encourages more complete healing. 

Sports Massage 

Is a special form of massage that is typically used before, during and after athletic events dealing with the health of muscle and connective tissue, range of movement and tone. It is great for promoting athletic endurance and performance and lessens the chance of injury. 

Therapeutic Massage 

Helps the body heal from injury and assists in the management of pain and reduction of muscle spasm. The results are greater flexibility and range of motion, relief of tension and an increase of the ease and efficiency of movement, all resulting in an immediate feeling of well-being.

Trigger Point Therapy 

Is a very specific style of massage that is designed to alleviate pain by applying isolated pressure to a specific area of tension in the muscle and releasing. A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body known as referred pain. This practice may be a little uncomfortable and so the client/patient is often asked to participate through deep breathing and also to help identify the location and intensity of the problem. It is possible to experience a significant decrease in pain after the first session and can be extremely helpful in managing long term chronic pain if received regularly.

MET – muscle energy technique 

Injury can occur as a result of accidents, overuse or trauma. Non-specific muscle ache is often due to over-use. MET is most appropriate for injury patterns that involve a decreased range of movement. It is an active technique which involves some client involvement in the movement of voluntary contraction and subsequent relaxation of the affected muscle.

Head & Shoulder Massage 

Is a great way to relieve tension headaches and gives immediate improvement in mobility and flexibility. Depending on your individual needs this can include scalp and/or facial massage.

Foot Mobilisation

As soft tissue specialists we can also assist with restoring functional movement of the foot and relieving foot pain. 

A foot is comprised of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles and tendons and 107 ligaments. The position and condition of all of these parts need to be well to ensure proper function and efficiency. 

The session lasts up to 30 minutes and is likely to include work up to the knee. Modern activities (Or lack thereof) and modern footwear often contribute to foot pain and regular foot mobilization can ensure comfort and offer relief with conditions such as achilles tendonitis or plantar fasciitis.

It is important to remember that if you have suffered actual injury that the first option is to see your GP and providing there are no underlying issues we can move forward with your treatment.

Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the principle that there a very specific points on the feet which relate to every gland, organ and part of the body. Stimulation of these points using special massage techniques creates a stimulating effect throughout the body. The aim is to rebalance those systems that may be disrupted and to restore the body to a balanced state of health. It will also bring about a general feeling of calm and relaxation. Reflexology is suitable to all and has known to be beneficial for the following conditions to name only a few.

At Elmcourt Clinic our therapist is fully certified in pregnancy massage and pregnancy reflexology. Both therapies are beneficial throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy; however, if there is any chance that you may have a high risk pregnancy we will insist on written consent from your GP.

Pregnancy massage can include anything from full Swedish massage, relevant deep tissue work, circulatory work, reflexology or any other modality that your practitioner is fully trained in. The treatment will be tailored to suit your very specific needs on the day. 

During pregnancy a woman’s body goes through many changes physically, physiologically and spiritually. Any of these changes may result in discomfort and/or stress to mum. 
Massage, and its numerous modalities, are a great way to offer relief from most aches and pains experienced through pregnancy, encourage circulation and promote a general sense of well-being.

Electrolysis continues to be the only medically approved method of permanent hair removal and has been proved to have excellent results. 

Our therapist has been practicing electrolysis for 30 years and is experienced in treating both men and women.

The advantage of using electrolysis as your chosen method of hair removal is that after the treatment, the follicle is permanently destroyed and the hair is unable to re-grow.

Treatment

The practice of electrolysis involves inserting a very fine needle directly into the hair follicle and releasing a short wave direct current that results in heat and a chemical reaction that destroys the follicle. With the follicle destroyed the hair can no longer grow.
While it may seem a slow process as each individual follicle must be treated the results are PERMANENT.
